Theater 150 in Ojai, CA is casting the off-broadway hit "BAT BOY, The Musical" by Keythe Farley, Brian Flemming, and Laurence O'Keefe.

Chris Nottoli and Deb Norton, producers; Phil Nemy, director. Rehearsals begin in late July. Performances run Oct 3-Nov 2, Fri/Sat/Sun. Equity members WILL be considered. Other than the four lead roles, all other actors will play multiple roles.

Seeking -

  • BAT BOY/EDGAR: Late Teens - Early 20's, Vocal Range -Tenor. Half boy/half bat, his journey from primitive/unrefined being to a well-rounded and civilized human. Actor must be able to tap the confusion and anger that often boils up while maintaining the innocent and loving essence of the character. Must be a strong singer and actor, have excellent movement skills, and be athletic. Actor must be willing to shave head and wear ear and teeth appliances. One small scene with rear nudity required;
  • DR. THOMAS PARKER: 30 - 50, Vocal Range - Tenor. A desperate man in a loveless marriage. Sees the attachment growing between Bat Boy and his wife Meredith, and grows to secretly despise the boy. Must be a strong singer and actor and believably portray his decline into diabolical madness;
  • MEREDITH PARKER: 30 - 50, Vocal range - Mezzo. The perfect housewife and mother with a deeply kept secret. A wonderfully complex character with great songs. Must be a strong actress with a strong belt;
  • SHELLEY PARKER: Late Teens-Early 20's, Vocal range - Soprano. The rebellious daughter, helps to convince her father to spare Bat Boy. Transforms from a spoiled brat into a young woman in love. Must have spunk, good comic timing, a strong voice, and an endearing presence. One small scene with minimal nudity required;
  • SHERIFF REYNOLDS: 30 - 60, Vocal range - Tenor. He is always the mediator and tries to do the right thing as long as it's good for his career;
  • RICK TAYLOR: Late Teens - Early 20's, Vocal range - Tenor. A bully and Shelley's boyfriend who discovers Bat Boy in a cave. His "redneck rap" song has heavy metal twist.
  • RON TAYLOR: Teenager, Vocal range - Tenor. He's a bit wimpier than his brother Rick;
  • RUTHIE TAYLOR: Teenager, Vocal range - Soprano. She is bitten by Bat Boy;
  • MRS. TAYLOR: 40 - 50, Vocal range - Alto/Soprano. The mother of Rick, Ruthie and Ron;
  • REV. BILL HIGHTOWER: 30 - 60, - Vocal range - Tenor. An over-the-top version of typical religious figures. Must have good comic timing and be able to riff and sing in the gospel style;
  • PAN: 25 - 40, Vocal range - Tenor. A forest God who presides over an interpretive marriage ceremony. Strong dancing ability a plus!
  • ENSEMBLE/TOWNSFOLK: All ages, All Vocal ranges. Simple and superstitious, the townspeople are over-the-top representations of rural farmers - think plaid shirts and cheesy southern accents! Most ensemble members have solo speaking and singing lines and all have lots of opportunities to shine.

Auditions will be held Tuesday July 29, 11am-2pm at The Second City Studio Theatre, 6560 Hollywood Blvd. Los Angeles, CA. and from 4-10 pm at Theater 150, 316 E. Matilija Street Ojai, CA.
